Intel Pentium III or Celeron CPU Identified as Pentium II or Pentium Pro

SYMPTOMS

When you view the General tab of the System tool in Control Panel, your Intel Pentium III or Celeron central processing unit (CPU) may be listed as an Intel Pentium II CPU or an Intel Pentium Pro CPU.


CAUSE

This issue occurs because Windows 95 and Windows 98 are not able to correctly identify an Intel Pentium III or Celeron CPU.


RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, identify your CPU by visually inspecting it, or by viewing the documentation included with your computer.
