Upgrading Computer Running VLM Client Installs Dial-Up Adapter

The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMS
When you upgrade your Microsoft Windows 3.1x-based computer running the
Novell NetWare VLM network client, a dial-up adapter is also installed,
and this adapter may not work correctly.
CAUSE
This issue can occur because during an upgrade, Windows 98 Setup installs
a dial-up adapter if it is not already installed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the appropriate method:
Remove the Dial-Up Adapter
If you do not want to use a dial-up adapter, you can remove it. To do so,
use the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then
double-click Network.
- Click Dial-Up Adapter, click Remove, and then click OK.
- Restart your computer.
Install Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
If you want to use the dial-up adapter, but TCP/IP is not installed, you
can install this protocol. To do so, use the following steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then
double-click Network.
- Click Protocol, click Add, click Microsoft in the Manufacturers box,
click TCP/IP, and then click OK.
- Restart your computer.
