SYMPTOMS
When you install the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) tool in Windows, you may be able to select a network adapter that is disabled.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, enable the network adpater you want to use, and then reinstall ICS. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel
- Double-click System, and then click the Device Manager tab.
- Double-click any network device that contains a red X.
- Click to clear the Disable In This Hardware Profile check box, and then click OK. Repeat steps 2-3 for each network device that contains a red X.
- Close Device Manager.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- On the Windows Setup tab, double-click Internet Tools, and then click to clear the Internet Connection Sharing check box.
- Click OK. Click OK again, and then restart Windows.
- After Windows restarts, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- On the Windows Setup tab, double-click Internet Tools, and then click to select the Internet Connection Sharing check box.
- Click OK. Click OK again, and then follow the instructions on your screen to set up ICS.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed
at the beginning of this article.
