"Error 629" Connecting to Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol Server

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to connect a Windows NT 4.0-based computer to a Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) server that is running the latest PPTP hotfixes, you may receive the following error message:

Error 629: The port was disconnected by the remote machine

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT version 4.0 version Windows NT version 4.0.
