Cannot Select Compress and Encrypt Check Boxes in Windows 2000ID: Q225089

When you attempt to compress or encrypt folders in Windows 2000, the Compress and Encrypt check boxes within the property sheet of the folder are selected and unavailable. Also, you may not be able to create files in the folder.
This behavior occurs because you may have compressed a folder in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4 that contains files or folders encrypted in Windows 2000. This could have occurred after either:

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5.
Compression of Windows 2000 NTFS volumes, folders, or files is not allowed on computers running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5.
When you compress the volume in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4, no warnings or error messages are displayed during compression of the folders encrypted from within Windows 2000.
