-
Microsoft Windows NT, versions 3.5, 3.51, 4.0, 4.0 SP4
SUMMARY
To use the latest versions of the common controls with Windows, you must
have the latest version of Comctl32.dll installed. You can obtain and
distribute the latest version of Comctl32.dll appropriate to a particular
operating system in either one of the following ways:
- In all cases, you can upgrade Comctl32.dll by installing the latest version of Internet Explorer (currently 4.01 SP2) intended for the particular platform:
Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/download/windows.htm)
This is the preferred method of upgrading
Comctl32.dll for all platforms. Please note that some newer controls may
not be added to older versions of Windows (Windows 3.x, Windows for Workgroups 3.x, and
Windows NT 3.x).
- You can use the file 401comupd.exe to install Comctl32.dll (version
4.72.3611.1900) on Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0. You cannot use
401comupd.exe for Windows 3.x, Windows for Workgroups 3.x, Windows NT
3.x, Windows 98 SE, or Windows 2000. Do not attempt to run 401comupd.exe on any system with Internet Explorer 5.x installed. You must install Service Pack 3 or
later on Windows NT 4.0 before installing 401comupd.exe. As with all
operating system changes, administrator privileges are required to use
401comupd.exe on Windows NT 4.0. You can get 401comupd.exe from the
following Web page (select an appropriate site):
Common Control Library Patch
(http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/ieplatform/ie/comctrlx86.asp)
The following flags can be used to minimize the UI thrown by this archive:
401comupd /r:n /q:1 = 99% quiet mode, some errors will still pop up warnings.
401comupd /r:n /q:a = totally quiet, with no popups even on error conditions.
NOTE: You must reboot before using this control.
You must take special care to avoid inadvertently installing any component
intended for one operating system onto another, because this can cause
unpredictable results and is a direct violation of Microsoft's licensing
agreements. For further information regarding redistribution, refer to the End-User License Agreement (EULA) packaged with the Microsoft Product.
MORE INFORMATION
You can obtain a redistributable version of Internet Explorer 4.01 from the
Platform SDK (PSDK), which has superceded the Internet Explorer
Administrator's Kit (IEAK).
Redistribution requirements and instructions are included in the PSDK,
which you can obtain from the following Microsoft Web Site and the latest version of the MSDN:
Microsoft Platform SDK
June 1999 Edition(http://msdn.microsoft.com/developer/sdk/platform.htm)
