Windows NT 4.0 Tcpip.sys Hotfixes Dated 4/28/99 to 5/28/99 Replaced

SYMPTOMS

Post-SP5 hotfixes for the Tcpip.sys driver dated April 28, 1999 to May 28, 1999 contain a regression that could cause your multiprocessor computer to stop responding (hang).


CAUSE

This problem occurs because of changes made in earlier hotfixes included an error in locking code. This error can cause your multiprocessor computer to "deadlock" or hang.


RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows NT 4.0 service pack that contains this fix.
