SUMMARY

The Wang Imaging controls (now owned by Eastman Software) cannot be redistributed. End users must have a version of the Imaging software installed on their systems as a prerequisite to installing any distributed applications that make use of these controls.

The Imaging controls include ImgScan.ocx, ImgAdmin.ocx, ImgEdit.ocx, and ImgThumb.ocx. These controls are available for free from the following sources:

Windows NT 4.0, both Server and Workstation
Windows 95, starting with Service Release 2
Windows 98

To determine whether the Imaging controls are already installed, click the Start button, point to Programs, and then click Accessories. If Imaging is listed, it is installed on the system.

Important Notes for Developers

If an application is developed on a Windows 95 computer using Imaging for Windows, the application will work on both Windows 95 and NT computers (assuming the Windows 95 computers have Imaging for Windows installed and the NT computers have Imaging for Windows NT installed).

However, if an application is developed on an NT computer, the application will run only on other NT computers (again assuming Imaging for Windows NT is installed).

Imaging for Windows Professional Edition

Eastman Software also has a for-sale version of the Imaging software called Imaging for Windows Professional Edition. The Professional Edition is a superset of the Imaging for Windows functionality, and it can be installed on either Windows 9x or NT.

If an application is developed using Imaging for Windows, it will work on computers that have Imaging for Windows Professional Edition installed. If an application is developed using Imaging for Windows Professional Edition, end users must purchase and install Imaging for Windows Professional Edition.

NOTE: If an application is developed using Imaging for Windows Professional Edition, it will work on a computer running Imaging for Windows only if it uses the basic functionality that is supported by Imaging for Windows and it has been recompiled under Imaging for Windows before distribution.
