FIX: UserKey Component Causes MIFST to Terminate

SYMPTOMS

The following updated file for the MIFST Web Development Toolkit contains two fixes (see download information below):

When using the UserKey component, it was possible for the system to free memory that is still in use, causing a crash. The system now monitors usage and only frees memory when all users have released it.
The system did not use the UserKey lifetime for freeing memory, but rather cleaned up the memory hourly. This could lead to excessive memory requirements under heavy load.

The fix now cleans up the memory at the time interval specified for user key life.

These errors occur only if the Translation Server uses the UserKey component.

RESOLUTION

These problems can be resolved by the following updated file for the MIFST Web Development Toolkit:

   OFX_UserKey_COM.dll 7/15/98 11:28pm, 368,064 bytes

To install this update, follow these steps:

1. Download the Fstqfe2b.exe file as described below to an empty folder.

2. In My Computer or Windows Explorer, double-click the Fstqfe2b.exe file

   you downloaded in step 1.

3. Follow the instructions on the screen to extract the files.

4. Replace the existing OFX_UserKey_COM.dll with this fixed version.

5. Register this new OFX_UserKey_COM.dll using RegSvr32.

6. The Ofx_userkey_com.dbg file is useful for debugging and can be placed

   in the directory where DLL debug symbols are stored.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Finance Server Toolkit versions 1.0 and 1.01. An update to address this problem is now available, but is not fully regression tested and should be applied only to computers experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft does not recommend implementing this update at this time.

This fix was developed for MIFST 1.01. If you are experiencing the problem addressed in this fix on MIFST 1.0, you must install the MIFST 1.01 service pack before applying this fix.
