The FoxPro Filer utility fails to copy a file that contains an umlaut in the filename.
Use the MS-DOS COPY command or use the Windows File Manager to copy the file.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Visual FoxPro 3.0 for Windows.
1. Create a filename containing an umlaut by typing the following in the
Command window
MODIFY FILE abcd
and then hold down the ALT key while pressing 0228 on the numeric
keypad. Enter any line of text, and then close the file.
2. Start the Filer utility by issuing the following command in the
Command window:
FILER
3. Highlight the filename containing an umlaut and choose the Copy push
button. Select any other directory and choose OK.
The following error message will appear:
Error copying <filename>.
Cannot open file. Do you wish to
continue?
