A paragraph in the "Remarks" section of the "CREATE INDEX statement(SQL)" topic in the Microsoft Access Help system reads as follows:


   You can use CREATE INDEX to create a fake index on an attached table.
   To create such an index, you don't need permission or access to the
   remote server, and the remote database will be unaware of and unaffected
   by the index. You use the same syntax for attached and native tables. 


RESOLUTION

This paragraph is misleading. You can use the CREATE INDEX statement to create a fake index on an attached SQL data source table only. You cannot create a fake index on an attached Microsoft Access, Paradox, FoxPro, dBASE, or Btrieve table.
