The information in this article applies to:
Possible EMS allocation conflicts may occur on Northgate 386 computers running QEMM. Conflicts may also occur if BUFFERS are loaded into expanded memory.
The products included here (Northgate 386 and QEMM) are manufactured by vendors independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding these products' performance or reliability.
Northgate 386 computers require that the RAMBIOS.SYS device driver be loaded in order to boot the system. If you are also using QEMM, it is necessary to include the following line in the CONFIG.SYS file to prevent QEMM from using the memory area used by the RAMBIOS:
DEVICE=QEMM.SYS RAM X=C500-C7FF
This statement must precede the DEVICE=RAMBIOS.SYS line in the
CONFIG.SYS file.
MS-DOS versions 4.0 and 4.01 can load buffers into expanded memory by including the following command in the CONFIG.SYS file:
BUFFERS=nn/X
This practice may cause problems if you are also using EMS with
another product.
