PRB: DISPLAY STATUS Wrongly Says Database Opened Exclusively

SYMPTOMS

DISPLAY STATUS shows that a database is opened exclusively in multiuser FoxBASE+/Mac even though the database was opened nonexclusively.

NOTE: This behavior does not occur in Visual FoxPro for Macintosh.

RESOLUTION

File sharing must be enabled for DISPLAY STATUS to show that the database is opened nonexclusively.

MORE INFORMATION

Database management is faster when databases are opened exclusively. For performance reasons, FoxBASE+/Mac checks if file sharing is enabled before opening databases nonexclusively. The following examples demonstrate the difference in DISPLAY STATUS when file sharing is off and when it is on.

   SET EXCLUSIVE OFF
   USE <database> ALIAS <alias>
   DISPLAY STATUS

Results with file sharing disabled:

   Currently Selected Database:
   Select Area:  1,  Database in use:  <database>   Alias:  <alias>
   Lock:  Exclusive USE

Results with file sharing enabled:

   Currently Selected Database:
   Select Area:  1,  Database in use:  <database>   Alias:  <alias>
   Lock:  <none>
