PRB: Keyboard Problems with FoxPro Versions 2.0 and 2.5

The information in this article applies to:

• Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, versions 2.0, 2.5, and 2.5a
• Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, versions 2.5 and 2.5a

The following three keyboard-related problems with FoxPro have been reported:

COMPAQ Dedicated Arrow Keys

The dedicated arrow keys on some COMPAQ machines do not work in conjunction with the SHIFT key. Compaq is aware of this problem, and offers a memory- resident program to allow the SHIFT and arrow keys to work together.

Numeric Keypad

The numeric keypad does not behave the same in FoxPro as it does at the MS-DOS command prompt. If you press SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW to enter a number 6, it instead continues a FoxPro selection to the next character. This behavior is by design to allow easier text editing. To use the numbers on the numeric keypad, press the NUMLOCK key on the keypad.

No Cursor

FoxPro starts but appears to hang without a cursor or any response. This is due to a difficulty with a few older versions of the ROM BIOS. Invoke FoxPro with the -K option to turn off the F11 and F12 keys.
