The information in this article applies to:
When you issue an SQL SELECT statement, the SET FILTER TO command is not taken into account.
Generally, when a SET FILTER TO command is issued, only the records that meet that criteria can be accessed through other FoxPro commands. However, the SQL SELECT command ignores the SET FILTER TO command because the SQL SELECT command opens the database in another work area, therefore bypassing the SET FILTER TO condition.
This behavior is by design.
1. Open the CUSTOMER.DBF database in the TUTORIAL directory.
2. Issue the following command:
SET FILTER TO state = 'OH'
3. Browse the database. Only the records where the state is "OH"
are shown.
4. Issue the following command:
SELECT * FROM customer WHERE state = 'CA'
A Browse window will appear with all the records where the state is
"CA".
