Record Not Locked When Format File Is Used in FoxPro
ID: Q89102
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS, versions 1.0, 1.01, 1.02, 2.0, 2.5x
- Microsoft FoxPro for Windows, versions 2.5x
In the multiuser version of Microsoft FoxPro, when a format file is
used, a record is not locked automatically when editing begins. A
record is locked automatically when a format file is not used.
To edit a database record when a format file is in effect, do any one
of the following:
- Manually lock the record before editing and release the record
after editing.
- Press CTRL+O in the format file. This performs a DO on the format file,
which also places a lock on the record that allows editing.
NOTE:
- Add a WHEN clause to a GET field. Call the RLOCK() function in the
WHEN clause.
Format files are used with the APPEND, BROWSE, INSERT, and READ
commands. Format files have an extension of .FMT or .PRX (compiled
screen format file) and are included for backward compatibility with
FoxPro versions 1.x. In later versions of FoxPro, you should use a
multiple window READ or the BROWSE PREFERENCE command instead of a format
file.
