If the database specified to contain the results of a TOTAL command exists, the database will be overwritten.
SAFETY is SET OFF.
The TOTAL command computes numeric field totals for records in a database. The results are placed in corresponding records in a second database. If the second database does not exist, FoxPro creates the database and assigns it the default .DBF extension. If the second database does exist, it is overwritten if SAFETY is SET OFF.
If SAFETY is SET ON, a warning message will appear, asking to overwrite the file. The following commands issued from the Command window illustrate this:
CLOSE DATABASES
SET SAFETY OFF
USE customer ORDER cno
TOTAL ON cno TO custotal
TOTAL ON cno TO custotal
SET SAFETY ON
TOTAL ON cno TO custotal
