Upgrading from FoxBASE+ to FoxPro on XT-Compatible

ID: Q86919

The information in this article applies to:

To upgrade from Microsoft FoxBASE+ to Microsoft FoxPro for MS-DOS on a PC/XT-compatible computer, do the following:

1. Place the following lines in the CONFIG.FP file:

   a. Add "MOUSE=1" to slow mouse tracking.

   b. Add "DEFAULT=<file specification>" to make the directory
containing the application files the default directory.

   c. Add "DOHISTORY OFF" to prevent FoxPro from maintaining a command
      history list.

2. After upgrading to FoxPro for MS-DOS, the first run of each report takes
somewhat longer than subsequent runs because FoxPro automatically
converts the form to FoxPro format before running the form. To avoid
this overhead when running a report, convert the form by opening and
   saving the form.

3. Remove any unnecessary files from the default directory. MS-DOS slows
considerably when it is required to search a long list of filenames for
a particular file. FoxBASE+ .FOX files and FoxPro .FXP files can reside
   in the same directory.
