FP: Found an Error in Spelling Files or Spelling Files Not Found

SYMPTOMS

When you check spelling in the Microsoft FrontPage Explorer or Editor, you may receive one of the following error messages:

   Found an Error in spelling files.

   -or-

   FrontPage cannot find the spelling file
   <drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Proof\Mssp232.dll

where "<drive>" is your hard disk drive letter.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Rename the following two files from:

          Mssp232.dll
          Mssp2_en.lex
    

    to the following:

          Mssp232.old
          Mssp2_en.old
    

  2. Remove Microsoft FrontPage using the following steps:

        a. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control
           Panel.
    

        b. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
    

        c. In the list of installed programs, select Microsoft FrontPage, and
           then click Add/Remove.
    

        d. Follow the instructions on the screen.
    

  3. Reinstall Microsoft FrontPage using the following steps:

        a. Click the Start button, and then click Run.
    

        b. Click Browse.
    

        c. In the Browse dialog box, select the CD-ROM drive that contains the
           FrontPage compact disc.
    

        d. Double-click the Setup.exe file to start the Setup program.
    

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
