  • Microsoft FrontPage 97 for Windows with Bonus Pack

SYMPTOMS

After you install the FrontPage Server Extensions on the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS), Microsoft Peer Web Services for Windows NT Workstation 4.0, or the Microsoft Personal Web Server for Windows 95, Windows NT Challenge/Response (NTLM) password authentication is enabled. You are not notified that this change has taken place.

MORE INFORMATION

FrontPage 97 uses NTLM encryption to pass passwords to the Web server whenever possible due to the security and performance advantages afforded by NTLM.

You can disable NTLM authentication, by following these steps:

Windows NT

  1. On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Internet Server (Common)," and then click Internet Service Manager.

  2. Double-click the WWW Service icon.

  3. Click to clear the NTLM check box, and then click OK.

Windows 95

  1. Start the Internet Services Administrator.

  2. Click WWW Administration.

  3. Click to clear the NTLM check box.
