Temporary files may exist on your Handheld PC (H/PC.) Pocket Word files usually have a .tmp extension and are saved in the My Documents folder. Pocket Excel files are usually saved in the root folder as Temp<x>.pxl, where <x> is the number of the temporary file.
When the H/PC is in a low-memory state, a Program Memory Is Very Low warning appears requesting you to close some programs or to convert 20K of storage space to program memory.
During low-memory situations, open Pocket Word or Pocket Excel files are stored as temporary files to preserve the program's last known state. A similar mechanism is used in desktop versions of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. The temporary files are left if you warm boot the H/PC before closing open files or programs.
To prevent the creation of temporary files, close enough programs to free enough program memory, or tap the "Convert 20K of storage memory to program memory" check box in the Program Memory Is Very Low dialog box to select it.
When you close open files and programs, the temporary files are removed. You can now adjust the slider bar on the Memory tab of the System Properties, or warm boot the H/PC to prevent the low memory dialog from reoccurring.
If temporary files exist after you restart your H/PC, close all files and programs and then manually delete the files.
