The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 4.0, 4.01, 4.01 Service Pack 1, 5 for Windows NT 4.0
-
Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 4.0, 4.01, 4.01 Service Pack 1, 5 for Windows 95
SYMPTOMS
Dial-Up Networking Monitor may not appear on the taskbar when Internet
Explorer dials the Internet automatically when the browser starts.
CAUSE
This problem can occur if Internet Connection Manager has not notified
Dial-Up Networking that it has initiated a dial-up session.
RESOLUTION
To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
Method 1
Start Dial-Up Networking after Internet Explorer has automatically
connected to the Internet using the following steps:
- Double-click My Computer.
- Double-click Dial-Up Networking.
Method 2
Do not use Internet Explorer to automatically dial your Internet
connection. Instead, connect to the Internet using Dial-Up Networking
before starting Internet Explorer.
Method 3 (Windows NT 4.0 Only)
Place a shortcut to Rasmon.exe in the Startup folder so that RAS Monitor will always be on the taskbar. To create a shortcut to RAS Monitor, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Taskbar and Start Menu.
- Click the Start Menu tab, and then click Add.
- In the Create Shortcut Command Line box, type rasmon, and then click Next.
- In the Select Program Folder window, navigate to the Startup folder, click Startup once to select it, and then click Next.
- In the Select a title for the program box, you can change the name or leave the default (RASMON.EXE), and then click Finish.
Note that this method creates a shortcut for the currently logged on user, not all users of the computer. If you want to create this as a global setting, move the shortcut for Rasmon.exe to the Startup folder in the All Users Start menu folder.
