Encapsulated PostScript File Extension Changes When Downloaded

SYMPTOMS

When you download an Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) file from a Web page in Internet Explorer and save the file to your hard disk, the file may be saved with a .ps extension instead of an .eps extension.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

1. Double-click My Computer.

2. On the View menu, click Options or Folder Options.

3. Click the File Types tab, and then click New Type.

4. In the Description Of Type box, type "Postscript" (without quotation

   marks).

5. In the Associated Extension box, type "ps, .eps" (without quotation
   marks).

   NOTE: If you do not type a space between "ps," and ".eps," when you
   download files with the .eps extension or the .ps extension, the files
   are saved with a ".ps,.eps" extension.

6. In the Content Type (MIME) box, type "application/postscript" (without
   quotation marks).

7. In the Default Extension For Content Type box, click ".ps, .eps," click
   OK, and then click OK again.

8. Empty your Temporary Internet Files folder. To do so, follow these
   steps:

   Internet Explorer 4.0 and 4.01:

   a. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the View menu.

   b. Under Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files.

   c. Click OK, and then click OK again.

   Internet Explorer 3.02:

   a. In Internet Explorer, click Options on the View menu.

   b. Click the Advanced tab, click Settings, and then click Empty Folder.

   c. Click Yes, click OK, and then click OK again.
