ACC95: Unexpected Behavior in Text Box w/Password Input Mask

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

In Microsoft Access for Windows 95 version 7.0, you are not able to retype the password in a text box that has been set with a password input mask if the Move After Enter option on the Keyboard tab of the Options dialog box has been set to Don't Move.

If you try to retype the password, the field locks, and you are unable to move from the text box.

This behavior does not occur in Microsoft Access 97. In Microsoft Access 97, you are able to retype in the text box over and over again.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior


  1. Open a new database in Microsoft Access version 7.0.


  2. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Keyboard tab.


  3. In the Move After Enter option, click to select Don't Move, and then click OK.


  4. Create a new blank form in Design view and add an unbound text box to the form.


  5. Add an input mask to the unbound text box that contains the password option.


  6. Switch the form to Form view and type something in the text box. Note that asterisks appear as expected.


  7. Press ENTER, and then try to retype the password.

    Note that you are only able to type one character before the field locks.
