The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMS
Internet Explorer 3.0, 3.01, 3.02When you right-click any item on the desktop except the The Internet icon, the context menu for the item may not open, and you may not be able to start any item on the desktop. You may be able to start items only by using the Start menu.
Internet Explorer 4.0When you right-click any item on the desktop, the context menu for the The Internet icon may open, and changes you make using the context menu may affect Internet Explorer rather than the item you right-clicked.
CAUSE
Internet Explorer 3.0, 3.01, 3.02This behavior can occur if the Internet Properties dialog box is open.
Internet Explorer 4.0This behavior can occur if the Internet Properties dialog box is open and you are not using the Windows Desktop Update component.
RESOLUTION
Internet Explorer 3.0, 3.01, 3.02Close the Internet Properties dialog box before you right-click or double- click an icon on the desktop.
