The "Downloaded Program Files" folder contains functionality that enables you to easily uninstall ActiveX controls. When this folder is deleted, a new "Downloaded Program Files" folder is created the next time Internet Explorer downloads new program files. However, the newly created folder does not contain the functionality to easily uninstall ActiveX controls. This article describes how to restore this functionality to the new folder.
To restore the ability to easily uninstall ActiveX controls, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click MS-DOS Prompt.
2. Type "cd\" (without quotation marks), and then press ENTER.
3. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
cd <windows>\system
where <windows> is the folder in which Windows is installed.
4. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
regsvr32 /i occache.dll
5. Type "exit" (without quotation marks), and then press ENTER to return
to Windows
6 Click Start, click Shut Down, click Restart, and then click OK.
Controls that were deleted with the original folder are listed with a status of Damaged. These controls should be removed because the associated files have already been deleted.
