If a user is not a member of the local Administrators group for the Windows NT Server or Workstation computer that they are trying to install Internet Explorer on, then the following message will occur after the setup program extracts the temporary setup files:
You must have administrative privileges on this computer to install this
program. Please contact you system administrator.
In order for a user to perform an installation of Internet Explorer on a Windows NT Server or Workstation computer, the user must be part of the local Administrators group. The setup program fails because the user does not have the same rights to the registry as the administrator.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in all 32-bit versions of Internet Explorer. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
