"Out of Memory" Error Message While Running Internet Explorer

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open another program while you are viewing a Web page using Internet Explorer, one of the following symptoms may occur:

• You receive the following error message:

        Out of memory. Please close one or more applications and try again.
  

• The computer stops responding (hangs) until you quit Internet Explorer.

CAUSE

The Web page you are viewing contains a POST command in the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) document.

The POST command is used to upload data from a client to a server on the Internet by means of an HTML form. Internet Explorer caches the data uploaded to the server in random access memory (RAM), filling RAM based on the amount of data sent using the POST command. Quitting Internet Explorer, and thus removing the data from RAM, is the only way to increase the system resources.
