In Internet Explorer, when you click a link to an executable program file that is located on a local area network (LAN) or local computer, you may be prompted whether you want to open or save a file named Tmp1.exe instead of the actual name of the file. If you click Open, the file is not downloaded or run. If you click the link again, the file name becomes Tmp2.exe. The number in the file name increments until you restart Internet Explorer.
To work around this problem, click Save As rather than Open, and type the correct file name for the file. After the file is saved to your hard disk, run the file.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer version 2.01 for Windows 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post additional information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
