After you quit Internet Explorer, the modem may remain connected to your Internet service provider (ISP).
The Dialer tool included with Internet Explorer for Windows 3.1 does not automatically disconnect the modem from your ISP when you quit the browser.
To terminate the modem connection after quitting Internet Explorer, double-click the Connection icon on the desktop and then click Disconnect.
Although the Dialer tool can automatically dial and connect when you start Internet Explorer, it is unable to determine when you quit Internet Explorer. The modem connection stays connected until either of the following conditions occurs:
To specify a time limit for Internet Explorer to stay connected to your ISP while it is idle, follow these steps:
1. Double-click the Dialer tool, and then click Properties.
2. On the General tab, click "Disconnect if idle for more than <x>
minutes."
3. Specify the desired time limit by clicking the up and down arrows,
and then click OK.
4. Click Close, and then click Yes when you are prompted to save the
changes you made to the connection.
