Microsoft Exchange and Internet Mail both offer connectivity to Simple Mail Transfer Protocol/Post Office Protocol 3 (SMTP/POP3) messaging.

Microsoft Exchange

Microsoft Exchange Server offers a broader set of features useful to users of local area network (LAN) e-mail, including full messaging application programming interface (MAPI) support, public folders, private folders, group scheduling, messaging system application development, and more.

The Microsoft Exchange client, included with Microsoft Windows 95, also includes the ability to send and receive mail from multiple providers, such as Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft Mail, The Microsoft Network, and CompuServe.

Internet Mail

Internet Mail is a mail program for users who use only Internet standard mail systems. It provides great performance and tight integration with Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0.
