When you try to start Internet Explorer, you receive the following error message:
Windows cannot find Iexplore.exe. This program is needed for opening
files of the type "The Internet."
This behavior occurs if you double-click the Infinst.exe file in the Internet Explorer folder. When you do so, the Iexplore.exe file is renamed to Ie20.exe.
Note that this does not occur if you upgraded from Internet Explorer 2.0 to version 3.0, because the Ie20.exe file already exists.
Rename the Ie20.exe file in the Internet Explorer folder to Iexplore.exe.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
