ACC: Cannot Use "y," "n," "t," or "f" in Yes/No Field

ID: Q94391

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

When you type the letter "y" or "n" into a field, you may receive the following error message:

The value you entered isn't appropriate for this field

CAUSE

You are not typing the entire word into a Yes/No Boolean field, a True/ False field, or an On/Off field.

RESOLUTION

Type the entire word "yes" or "no" instead of the abbreviation "y" or "n" in a field defined with a Yes/No data type. The capitalization does not matter.

In a combo box or list box, you can enter just a "y" or "n" and Microsoft Access will fill in the words "yes" or "no" automatically.
