For each connection icon in Internet Explorer for Windows 3.1, a corresponding .con file is created. However, when you delete a connection icon in Windows 3.1, the corresponding .con file is not removed automatically.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Internet Explorer listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
These files are numbered in the sequence in which they were created. For example, for the first connection you create, a file named Con0000.con is created, and so on. These files contain information specific to the connection.
