Internet Mail Message Text Appears as Hyperlink

The information in this article applies to:

• Microsoft Internet Mail and News version 1.0 for Windows 95

SYMPTOMS

When you type a new message in Internet Mail and then move the mouse pointer over the text in the message, the mouse pointer may change to a hand, appearing as if the text were an Internet shortcut or hyperlink.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if all the following conditions are true:

• The signature feature of Internet Mail is enabled.
• The "Add signature to the end of all outgoing messages" option is enabled.
• The signature begins with a hyperlink such as http://www.microsoft.com.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:

• Add text before the hyperlink. For example:

        Joe
        http://www.microsoft.com
  

• Delete the signature in the mail message, then type the message. When you delete the signature, the hyperlink over the text is released.
• Use brackets (<>) before and after the Internet shortcut in the signature. For example:

        <http://www.microsoft.com>
  

• Disable the "Add signature to the end of all outgoing messages" option. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. On the Mail menu, click Options.

  2. Click the Signature tab.

  3. Click the "Add signature to the end of all outgoing messages"

        check box to clear it.
  

  4. Click Apply, and then click OK.

  With this option disabled, you can click Signature on the Insert menu to add your signature at the end of the mail message.
