BUG: Transparent Label Control Comes Up Opaque in IE3

SYMPTOMS

A Label control with the BackStyle property set to Transparent comes up opaque when inserted into an HTML document, and then loaded into either Internet Explorer 3.x or 4.0.


RESOLUTION

One workaround to this problem is to set the control's background color (or BackColor property) to the same color as the HTML document background. However, this works only when the document background is set to a solid color, and not when it is set to a background image. If a background image is specified for an HTML document, the Label control should not be used.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. From FrontPage Express, insert a Microsoft Forms 2.0 Label control.


  2. Set the BackStyle property to 0 - Transparent.


  3. Save the .htm file in ControlPad and load it in Internet Explorer 4.0.


  4. The Label control does NOT come up transparent--that is the background color or image does not show through.


This problem does not occur when a similar transparent Label control is inserted into a Visual Basic form, where the control comes up transparent, as expected.
