SUMMARY

The Microsoft Internet Information Server supports file name mapping. It maps file name extensions to the proper program so that it can run files with those extensions. Some extensions are pre-installed and others are manually added.

File names with the extensions of .bat, .cmd and .idc are pre-installed. Other extensions must be added in the following manner:

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT to correct them. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use this tool at your own risk.

Start Registry Editor (REGEDT32.EXE) and locate the following Registry subkey in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE subtree:

   \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3SVC\Parameters\Script Map
 
```

From the Edit menu, select Add Value.

Enter the following:
```
      Value Name: <Extension>
      Data Type:  REG_SZ
      String:     <Full path and File name>?
 
```
NOTE: Make sure you add the "?" (without quotes) at the end of the URL, so that the Web browser does not attempt to download the script file. For additional information regarding the ?, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Click OK and quit the Registry Editor.

Shut down and restart Windows NT.
