ACC97: Controls Disappear from Tab Control If Placed in Tab Area

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

If you place controls on an ActiveX tab control in any area except the page area, you cannot see the control in Form view.


RESOLUTION

Always place controls in the page area of a tab control, and not on top of or to the right of the tabs themselves.


STATUS

This behavior is by design.


MORE INFORMATION

Any control or portion of a control that you place on top of a tab, or in the area to the right of the rightmost tab on the control, will not be visible in Form view.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior


  1. Start Microsoft Access and open the sample database Northwind.mdb.


  2. Click the Forms tab in the Database window.


  3. Click the New button to create a new form.


  4. In the New Form dialog box, select Design View, and then click OK. A new form opens in Design View.


  5. In the toolbox, click the Tab Control button.


  6. Click anywhere in the blank area of the Detail section of the form. Note that a tab control containing two pages appears on the form.


  7. In the toolbox, click the Text Box button.


  8. Place the text box on the tab control in the area to the right of the tabs.


  9. View the form in Form View. Note that the text box is not visible.
