BUG: Hang Adding Large Files to Project through Microsoft Proxy

Last reviewed: December 9, 1997
Article ID: Q165896
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Visual InterDev, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Visual InterDev hangs when it is waiting for large files to be copied to the server over a Microsoft Proxy Server.

CAUSE

When you try to add large files (about 65K and up) through a Microsoft Proxy Server, Visual InterDev hangs. Visual InterDev hangs because the large files do not get copied across the firewall, and the add file operation is never completed.

STATUS

Aside from physically placing the large files on the server or decreasing the size of the files added to the project, there are no known workarounds for this problem.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Under Tools/Options/Web Project Proxy, point to a Microsoft Proxy Server.
2. Create a new Web project. 3. Point to a machine outside the firewall as your server. 4. Add a file to the project that is larger than 65K in size. This causes
   Visual InterDev to hang.
