PRB: "ORA-00923" Oracle Error when Executing or Verifying Query

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

The following error occurs when executing a query against an Oracle 7.0 database:

ORA-00923: FROM keyword not found where expected
The error occurs when the query is of the following form:
Select *, columnname From Table


CAUSE

The query is not a valid query, Oracle allows an asterisk (*) or a column list in the project list, not both.


RESOLUTION

Use a column list or the asterisk, but not both.


STATUS

This behavior is by design.
