Microsoft Mail Is Year 2000 Compliant

SUMMARY

Microsoft Mail Server is designed for use in the year 2000 and will continue to work well beyond the year 2000. There are some reported issues with the way Microsoft Mail writes the time stamp to the log files. This will not affect mail flow.

There are open issues in the manner in which Microsoft Mail logs the event on logs files. This issue is under investigation to determine all of Microsoft Mail's supported gateways.

Microsoft Mail stores the date on a 4-digit format instead of 2 digits. To ensure the most reliable data and to reduce the potential for errors or unexpected results, Microsoft also recommends that you consider taking the following steps:

• Check the impact of BIOS problem on older systems.
• Test third-party gateways and other products.
• Check any non-Microsoft Operating System for possible problems.

STATUS

Microsoft is testing to determine the extent of the issues. This does not affect the way mail flows. There is a current fix available for time stamp problem of the External and Dispatch executable for NTMMTA. Please contact Microsoft for other updates and status.
