When you install the Microsoft Mouse or BallPoint Mouse on the PS/2 port on NEC PowerMate machines, you must enable a switch on the motherboard for the Microsoft Mouse driver to correctly recognize the Microsoft Mouse. If it is not enabled, the Microsoft Mouse driver may stop (hang) the machine or report that it cannot find a Microsoft Mouse
The NEC PowerMate 386/25s has a switch on the motherboard that enables or disables the PS/2 port. The switch is reportedly labeled as #10 and must be in the ON position for the Microsoft Mouse to function properly on the PS/2 port. If the switch is OFF, the driver may behave in unpredictable ways. Some symptoms include the machine hanging after the "Mouse driver installed" message is displayed, or simply a "Driver not installed -- Microsoft Mouse not found" message. Windows might display a mouse pointer, but it does not move when the mouse is moved.
To work around the problem, move the #10 switch on the motherboard to the ON position.
