Serial Plug and Play Devices Using Adapter Are Not Recognized

SYMPTOMS

When you are using a 9-pin to 25-pin serial adapter with a serial Plug and Play device, the device may not be enumerated by the configuration manager.

CAUSE

Some 9-pin to 25-pin serial adapters do not connect the lines that pass the Plug and Play initialization string, including adapters made by Microsoft before the release of Windows 95.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, use one of the following methods:

Add the device manually using the Add New Hardware tool in Control Panel.

Check the adapter to make sure all the lines are connected.

Try another adapter.
