Using Microsoft Mouse on Compaq Laptops/Docking Stations

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the serial/mouse port compatible Microsoft Mouse (also called the Round Mouse Port PS/2 and Serial Version, FCC ID #C3KACB1 or #C3KMCB1) with the serial-to-PS/2 mouse port adapter on the PS/2 mouse port of a Compaq laptop or docking station, the following error message is displayed:

Microsoft Mouse not found. Try another 9 or 25 pin serial port or check for interrupt conflicts. Type Mouse /F to check all ports.


CAUSE

This error is caused by a loss in signal strength through the serial-to- PS/2 mouse port adapter. Compaq has confirmed that this is a configuration problem with its laptop and docking station computers and is not limited to Microsoft mice.

WORKAROUND

To use a Microsoft Mouse on the PS/2 mouse port of one these machines, you must use the Mouse Port Compatible Mouse rather than the Round Mouse Port PS/2 and Serial Version. Below are the FCC ID numbers of the Mouse Port Compatible Mouse.
