Access Violation If Corrupted Message Received Through Portal

SYMPTOMS

When a server sends a bad message across a portal, the receiving server may stop responding (crash).

RESOLUTION

Chatsvc.dll has been modified to discard bad messages and add events to the log when they are received. Upgrade the system with Service Pack 1 (SP1) for MCIS. This will update the Chatsvc.dll file and correct the problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System, version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
