MPS Install Removes Default Windows NT Administrative SharesID: Q161710
|
The Microsoft Personalization System (MPS) Operations Guide details the use of the Windows NT 4.0 System Policy Editor to turn off the 8.3 file name creation. After you follow this MPS pre-setup instruction, the Windows NT default administrative shares are no longer available.
This is the result of a known issue with the Windows NT System Policy Editor.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in version 3.5, 3.51 and 4.0 of Microsoft Windows NT. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
