Use of Persistent Channel Data Field Causes Corruption

Last reviewed: February 3, 1998
Article ID: Q158698

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Commercial Internet System, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

If a persistent channel contains a non-null DATA field, the PICS and ban entries of that channel will be corrupted when they are replicated to another server.

RESOLUTION

Upgrade the system to Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Microsoft Commercial Internet System version 1.0. This will load an updated copy of the Chatsvc.dll file. The fix prevents the corruption from occurring by correctly setting the DATA field length in the chat server-to-server message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Commercial Internet System, version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
