Convert an AVI File & Get Buffering Over 28.8 Connections

ID: Q165263

SYMPTOMS

When I convert an AVI file with its bitrate set to 14 KB/sec, it does a lot of buffering when users try to view it over a 28.8 connection.

WORKAROUND

The details should be the following:

14 KB/sec

NOTE: The upper case B is for bytes, and the lower case b is for bits.

If you take the following:

   14 * 1024 * 8 = 114688

and add in a bit of ASF overhead, and you have 118750 kilobytes per second.

AVI needs to be compressed down to no more than 2 KB/sec if you want to stream it over 28.8 bps links.

When you are compressing, set the video at about 11 to 13 kb/sec depending on the audio codec and settings you select.
