This article explains how to rename toolbars on the Microsoft Office
Shortcut Bar (OSB) included with Microsoft Office versions listed at the
beginning of this article.

The following sets of steps work in both Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft
Windows NT.
To rename a toolbar on the Microsoft Office 97 Shortcut Bar
The Microsoft Office 97 OSB allows you to rename toolbars without using
Windows Explorer. To rename a button, use the steps appropriate for your
version of Windows:
Windows 95 and Windows NT, version 4.0, only
- Right-click the icon for the toolbar you want to rename. On the
shortcut menu, click Rename.
- In the New Name box, type the toolbar's new name. Press ENTER
or click OK.
Any version of Windows 95 or Windows NT
- Click the control menu in the upper-left corner of the OSB, and
click Customize.
- Click the Toolbars tab.
- In the list of toolbars, click the name of the toolbar you want to
rename, and then click Rename.
- In the New Name edit box, type the new name of the toolbar. Then
press ENTER or click OK.
- Click OK.
The renamed toolbar appears on the OSB.
To rename a toolbar on the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar, version 7.0
Each toolbar on the OSB has an equivalent folder stored in the
Msoffice\Office\Shortcut Bar folder on your hard disk. You can rename the
toolbar on the OSB by renaming the folder. To do this:
Windows 95 and Windows NT, version 4.0, only
- In Windows Explorer, go to the Msoffice\Office\Shortcut Bar
folder on your hard disk (C:\Msoffice\Office\Shortcut Bar, for
example).
- Right-click the folder with the same name as the toolbar that
you want to rename (Office, for example), and click Rename.
- Type a new name for the folder (NewOffice, for example) and then,
press ENTER.
- Go to step 5, shown below.
Windows NT, version 3.51
- In File Manager, go to the Msoffice\Office\Shortcut Bar folder on
your hard disk. (C:\Msoffice\Office\Shortcut Bar, for example.)
- Select the folder with the same name as the toolbar that you
want to rename (Office, for example). On the File menu, click
Rename.
- In the edit box, type the new name of the toolbar, preceded by its
path. For example: "C:\Msoffice\Office\Shortcut Bar\NewOffice" and
then click OK.
- Go to step 5, shown below.
After you rename the folder, follow these steps in the OSB:
- Click the control menu at the upper-left corner of the OSB, and
click Customize.
- Click the Toolbars tab.
- In the list of toolbars, clear the checkbox next to the old name of
the toolbar (Office).
- Click Add Toolbar.
- In the Add Toolbar dialog box, click "Make Toolbar for this Folder"
and type the path to the renamed folder in the edit box. You can also
click Browse, select the folder, and click Add. Click OK.
- Click OK.
The renamed toolbar appears on the OSB.
