OFF: Shortcut Icons on Shortcut Bar Start Wrong Program
ID: Q137261

  |
The information in this article applies to:
-
Microsoft Office 97 for Windows

-
Microsoft Office for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to start a program by clicking an icon on the Microsoft
Office Shortcut Bar, a program other than the one you expect may be
started. In addition, when you position the pointer over an icon on the
Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar, the ToolTip for that shortcut may be
different from what the icon represents. For example, if the pointer is
over the Microsoft Excel shortcut, the ToolTip may be displayed as
"Microsoft Word" (without the quotation marks).
NOTE: This behavior occurs under both Microsoft Windows NT and Microsoft
Windows 95.
CAUSE
This problem may occur because the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar loses
track of the settings of the toolbars and shortcuts that are included on
the individual toolbars.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, right-click the toolbar, and then click
Refresh Icons on the shortcut menu. If clicking Refresh Icons does not
update your toolbar, use one of the following methods.
Microsoft Office 97
- Close the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar.

- Click Start on the taskbar, point to Programs, and click Explorer.

- On the View menu, click Options, click the View tab, and then click
   Show All Files.

- Open the Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Shortcut Bar
   folder.
NOTE: This path may be different on your computer, depending on
   where you installed Microsoft Office.

- For each of the toolbars on the Office Shortcut Bar, delete the files
with a .tmp extension that are associated with the toolbars. For
example, if you create a toolbar called My_Files on the Office
Shortcut Bar, delete the files with names similar to the following:
      my_7276.tmp
      my_7276h.tmp
      my_7276s.tmp
      my_7276hs.tmp
      my_7276vs.tmp
There may be fewer .tmp files for each of the toolbars. The number of
files that are created depends on the settings you select when you
   create the toolbars.

- Restart the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar.

The .tmp files are recreated automatically.
Microsoft Office for Windows 95, version 7.0
- Close the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar.

- Click Start on the taskbar, point to Programs, and click Explorer.

- On the View menu, click Options, click the View tab, and then click
   Show All Files.

- Open the <Msoffice>\Office\Shortcut Bar folder, where <Msoffice> is
the folder in which you installed Microsoft Office.

- For each of the toolbars on the Office Shortcut Bar, delete the
associated files that have a .tbb extension. For example, if you
create a toolbar called My_Files on the Office Shortcut Bar, delete
the files with names similar to the following:
      my_files.tbb
      my_filesh.tbb
      my_filess.tbb
      my_filesvs.tbb
      my_fileshs.tbb

- Restart the Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar.
